Under this initiative of NTPC, two separate FGD plants are being set up for two units in Meja Urja Nigam, a joint venture between NTPC and Uttar Pradesh State Power Generation Corporation Limited, which are under construction. Only NTPC is setting up FGD flue gas desulphurization plant in thermal power projects. No other company is setting up.
Giving this information, Chief Executive Officer of Meja Urja Nigam Sunil Kumar said that a lot of work has been done in the FGD plants under construction of Meja Urja Nigam and they are in the process of commissioning. As soon as the construction work is completed, both the FGD plants will be commissioned and desulphurization of flue gases coming out of the boilers will start. He told that we are very sensitive about environmental management and it is one of our priorities. About 1500 trees were planted in the Meja Urja Nigam campus on 15th August by a tree plantation drive, which in itself shows our commitment towards promoting a green and healthy environment. Even before this, heavy plants should be commissioned by Meja Urja Nigam on various occasions. Promoting a green environment is a duty that transcends boundaries and affiliations. We will try our best to maintain environmental balance in the project and its surrounding areas. He said that after the commissioning of FGD plants, the environment here will become even better, as well as the remaining possibilities of environmental imbalance will also end. We are determined to improve the environment here.
In the near future also, we will continue to do necessary work for environmental improvement. It will be our best effort to make both the FGD plants of NTPC operational at the earliest.
